Job description
As a Shift Lead at La Cabra, you’ll take on both barista responsibilities and leadership tasks, helping to maintain a high-functioning, efficient, and welcoming café environment. You’ll work closely with the Lead Barista and fellow Shift Leads to support the team, uphold our quality standards, and ensure seamless daily operations. This role requires strong communication, multitasking, and leadership skills to guide the team effectively.
Daily Operations & Task Management
Oversee shift operations, ensuring all daily tasks are completed efficiently.
Write out the daily task list and delegate responsibilities throughout the shift.
Ensure all opening and closing checklists are completed to standard.
Team Support & Training
Assist in position changes and break management when the Lead Barista is absent.
Support and train baristas on opening/closing procedures and workflow expectations.
Act as a role model for professionalism, efficiency, and customer service.
Stay up-to-date with all internal updates via Ziik and weekly team briefings.
Inventory & Quality Control
Properly store newly received items using FIFO procedures.
Maintain awareness of stock levels and communicate needs to leadership.
Ensure all coffee, bakery, and service items meet La Cabra’s quality standards.
Cash Handling & Customer Service
Team Engagement & Communication
Maintain a spotless and well-organized café, including the bar and guest areas.
Clean and care for all espresso and brewing equipment to ensure peak performance.
Follow all NYC Department of Health guidelines to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
